6 Uses for Paracord in the Wilderness
Are you going on a camping or wilderness trip? Or just like to go on excursions and big adventures? If so, you'll definitely need paracord. Whether you carry a hank in your bag or the easiest way - as a bracelet - Paracord is one of the best items to have on you in a survival situation.
Since its transition to the civilian world, it's uses have skyrocketed - in survival, practical, and crafting. Not to mention all the ways the military still use it. However you use it, deploying your bracelet or taking some out of your bag - paracord has an infinite number of uses in the wild. Without further ado, here are 6 uses for paracord in the wilderness.
#1 Build a Fire
In a survival situation, you may need to start a fire to keep warm. Or in a real bad situation, use the smoke so someone can find you from above. The great thing about it is paracord will maintain the fire for as long as you let it or at least until the end of the bracelet. If you're wearing a standard 8 inch Cobra Weave bracelet, that's already a solid 8 feet of cord for you to burn and keep warm.

#2 Shelter

Maybe you're a big adventurist and planned on making your own shelter, maybe you forgot a tent, or maybe something happened to your tent. Either way, paracord can be a great help in fashioning your own shelter. It can be done as simple as in the photo above, or as complex as tying sticks and brush together to make yourself something.
#3 Tourniquet
I have written about paracord being used a tourniquet in a
previous blog, but it's very relevant here as well. It is very common if you're camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, whathaveyou to get a bad cut. In this situation, it's as easy as unraveling your bracelet and making it a tourniquet to limit blood loss until you can get medical help.
#4 Backpack

There are numerous ways for paracord to be used for or with your backpack. You could make yourself a backpack (above photo) with paracord and sticks, use paracord to tie the items that won't fit to it, make zipper pulls for quicker unzipping (and a fun look), wrap backpack handles in paracord for extra cord and ease of carrying, make an extra or longer strap, or even make a backpack completely out of paracord.
#5 Shoe Laces

I don't think this one needs much explanation. If your shoelaces unravel or rip, use paracord in its place. Wearing bad laces can put you in a real bind if you're walking a lot or going on a hike. You also never know when you're going to have to run away from an animal and need extra functional shoelaces

#6 Trapping Small Animals

This is definitely something you'll need to know how to do if you're in a survivalist situation (or on The Walking Dead) or if you are just catching all your own food on your trip. This handy use for paracord is great for if the fish aren't biting and you need to catch small game. Just tie one end of the cord to a tree branch and make a noose at the other end with a loose knot. This will tighten up with tripped by an animal.
